Practical care tips
The lifespan of your fabric upholstery depends greatly on how intensively the furniture is used and how carefully you treat it. A few simple points of attention help keep the fabric looking beautiful for longer.
Vacuum regularly
Small particles of dirt, such as dust, sand, crumbs or food residue, are often barely visible but can damage the fibres through friction. Vacuum your seating weekly to every two weeks, depending on the intensity of use. Always use the lowest setting and a soft, blunt attachment.
Work with the pile
For fabrics with a pile, such as velour or chenille, it is best to vacuum in the direction of the pile. This means gently smoothing the raised fibres in their natural direction.
Use the right cloth
You can also wipe the upholstery with a soft, lint-free cloth or fabric care glove. Avoid microfibre cloths, as they can affect the surface.
Preferably use distilled water
When wiping the fabric with a slightly damp cloth, preferably use distilled water. This helps avoid limescale marks or rings on the upholstery. Never use water on chenille fabric!
Allow the fabric to dry thoroughly after care
After cleaning, allow the upholstery to dry completely and naturally before using the furniture again. Never use water on chenille!
Match care to the level of use
In addition to regular vacuuming, periodic thorough cleaning is recommended for intensive use. Always choose products that are suited to the fibre composition of your fabric.
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight
Every fabric can fade over time under the influence of light. Where possible, avoid leaving your furniture in full sun for prolonged periods.
Protect against sharp or rough contact
Jewellery, keys, zips, metal clothing details, sharp nails or pets’ claws can damage the fabric. Sand and crumbs can also cause wear through friction.
Be aware of colour transfer
Dark jeans, throws, decorative cushions or other strongly coloured materials can transfer colour to your upholstery. Some dyes penetrate deep into the fibres and can then be difficult or impossible to remove. Take extra care with light-coloured fabrics.
Act quickly on stains
The faster you act, the greater the chance of a good result. More information about stains can be found in the next chapter.
What to do about stains?
Treat stains on fabric quickly and carefully. Always follow the care instructions for your specific fabric. You can find these on www.jori-care.com or in the maintenance booklet supplied with your JORI seating.
Act immediately
Fresh stains are easier to treat than older, dried-in stains. The fabrics in the JORI collection are treated with a moisture- and water-repellent coating, which means many stains can still be dealt with effectively if you respond quickly.
Dab, do not rub
Blot up moisture as quickly as possible with unbleached kitchen paper or a clean, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Never rub, as this can damage the fibres or cause the colour to fade.
Work from the outside in
Always treat the stain from the outer edge towards the centre. Then allow the fabric to dry naturally and do not use the furniture again until the upholstery is completely dry.
Use only suitable products
Do not use household cleaners, bleach, solvents or home remedies such as vinegar. Choose only products that are suitable for your fabric type. Recommended care products for JORI fabrics are available via www.jori-care.com.
Always test first
Test the cleaning product on an inconspicuous area. Never apply the product directly to the fabric. Always apply it with a cloth.
Take extra care with chenille
Do not use water to treat stains on chenille fabrics. Use only the designated care glove or have the fabric professionally cleaned when necessary.
Seek help for stubborn stains
Red wine, coffee, grease, oil, blood, pet stains or ingrained dirt can be difficult to remove. Odour or discolouration may also remain if the stain is treated too late or incorrectly.
Have covers treated professionally
Always have removable fabric covers professionally removed and cleaned.
